Setting clear financial goals for women executives Why do it

Setting clear financial goals for women executives Why do itSetting clear financial goals for women executives Why do itWe are still paid less than men, so our money has to go farther 2017 figures show that women are paid about 82 cents for each dollar a man makes, based on median salaries for full-time workers. That translates into a woman having to work about four more months per year to make the same annual salary as a man.We live longer than men and health care costs in retirement continue to rise The average male life expectancy is about 76.5 years while a womans is a little over 81 years according to research by the World Health Organization and Imperial College of London. According to the Society of Actuaries, 1 out of 2 women who are in their mid-fifties today will live to be 90. Greater longevity is one of many reasons women aged 75 and older are almost twice as likely to live in poverty versus men of the same age.Of course, one of the biggest financial risks, as we age, is the cost of healthcare. Fidelitys Retiree Health Care Cost Estimate finds the average health care costs per couple in retirement will total $280,000 after tax, not including the cost of long-term care.To provide greater security Life is uncertain and being unprepared leaves women at the effect of, instead of being in control of their circumstances. Its also common for women to be fearful about their future, especially when theyre unclear about their financial reality. Perhaps fear is warranted considering some of the statistics according to the US Census Bureau, the average age of a widow is 59 years old and 3 out of 4 married women are widowed by the age of 75.The threat of divorce is also real with 25% of divorces now involving couples over the age of 50. According to Pew Research, the divorce rate of couples over 50 has doubled since the 1990s. In some cases, discomfort caused by unterstellung uncertainties motivates women to be more engaged before something unfortunate occurs.H ow to set clear goalsPut structure around your goals As with any goal-setting process, writing down your goals is an important first step in planning for the future. We suggest that before you dive into the detailed numbers, you articulate your vision for retirement. If youre in a partnership, take time to come to an agreement on a shared vision of your retirement life.Consider questions such as Where will we live? How will we spend our free time? Will we work part-time? If you face some challenges in having this discussion on your own, a good financial advisor can usually help create a neutral place to talk about differences so you can agree on how to move forward.Write down the life goals you want to achieveTaking nice vacations every yearFunding children/grandchildrens educationRetiring earlyLive in your dream locationBuy a vacation homeGive generously to personal causesLeave a legacy to your childrenComplete a financial plan. At a minimum, your plan should includeNet Worth state mentCurrent investment allocationCash flow needs during retirementLong-term analysis of cash inflows, outflows and wealth accumulationIdeally, a Monte Carlo analysis to get a better idea if your retirement is sufficiently funded or if additional savings are needed after taking into account potential market volatilitySources of income to include guaranteed income such as pensions, annuities, Social Security and variable income such as brokerage accounts, IRAs, 401ksEstimate of future taxes owed on tax-deferred savings such as IRAs and 401ksStress test your plan for a variety of what if scenarios like early retirement due to a layoff or poor health, high medical costs, supporting a child or parent in need, financial changes should you delay retirement, etc. Finally, learn from general advice but remember that there are over 40 dimensions of wealth that you should consider before making your financial decisions. My colleague, Dawn Doebler, CPA, CFP, CDFA explains these Dimensions of Wea lth and the effect on individual financial goals and plans.Make sure your advisor stacks upTo be honest, the financial services industry does not make it easy to understand who has the right expertise and experience to provide the services and advice that each person may need. Not all financial advisors offering comprehensive financial planning provide the same level of service. For example, someone who works for a start-up company about to go public needs a team of advisors with a lot of experience in stock options and grants, tax planning, estate planning, investment management and, perhaps, philanthropic planning, if they stand to make a lot of money from their company stock and would like to fund their charitable causes. In this case, the expertise of the team should include CPAs, attorneys, Certified Financial Planner (CFP) professionals, Chartered Financial Analysts (CFAs) and others depending on the clients needs beyond handling the complexities of their equity options. Its ra re, if not impossible to find all of this expertise in just one financial advisor.Another person may be going through a complex divorce. Working with a divorce mediator or attorney is a good first step but they may want to consider hiring a financial advisor who specializes in divorce a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA). These specialists generally have seen many divorce situations as they advise their clients going through a divorce, so they bring experience and objectivity to an emotionally packed situation.Someone with significant wealth may need the services of a family office to help them manage their day-to-day finances, as well as their longer-range investing. These families may look to their advisory team to help them communicate their values to their children and other heirs and help prepare them to be good stewards of their wealth as it is passed on to them. These families also require more advanced investment strategies along with tax and estate planning solutio ns that protect and preserve their wealth for future generations. Its up to the individual to do their homework, ask questions and ask to speak with referrals who have a similar situation before making a decision.Create a customized investment planIt may come as a surprise to know that a recent Women and Money survey by Fidelity found that women are, in fact, better investors than men. After reviewing over 8 mio client accounts, Fidelity found that women investors earned 0.4 percent more than men, and they are saving more than men too. Over time, when these small percentages are applied to increased savings and investing, it can add up to significantly more money. While this is great news, they also found that women tend to take less risk. Given the results of the study, you would think thats a good thing, right? The answer is, that depends. The better question is, Are women taking appropriate risk given their goals for their money, their need for income in retirement and their stomac h for risk?Keep in mind that a portfolio needs to provide a sufficient return to overcome taxes and inflation. In order to do so, investors will continue to need a healthy dose of equities into late retirement. As human beings, our natural tendency is to run to the safety of shore when the seas get rough and jump into the ocean when everything looks calm. However, these actions usually create a pattern of buying high and selling low, resulting in poor investment performance. We urge investors to adopt and stick to an asset allocation policy that makes sense for the long term. Tactically adjusting for current market conditions can add performance but drastic shifts often lead to underperformance. The best way to invest appropriately is to have clear financial goals and create a customized plan that has the best chance to get you there.Nadine Gordon Lee, CPA/PFS, CFP is the co-author of Personal Financial Planning for Executives and Entrepreneurs The Path to Financial Peace of Mind. The ultimate guide to preparing for an vorstellungsgesprch The ultimate guide to preparing for an einstellungsgesprchPosted November 22, 2013, by Gavin F. Redelman Congratulations You have been invited for an bewerberinterview. Now you should make sure that you are excellently prepared. The first step is beginning to research the company. Once you have done this you will be ready to prep for the interview questions, learn how to improve your interviewing skills and begin to think about what youre going to wear to the interview. In this article you can find essential interview preparation tips. How to research the company In order to succeed in the interview you need to do your homework on the company. There is no set of rules on how to do your research, but preparing yourself as much as possible will greatly enhance your chances of getting hired. Make sure you use every available resource to help you with your preparation. By doing a basic Google search on the company you can easily learn important facts about it. Its easier to prepare your background research for publicly listed companies than privately listed ones, as public companies are legally required to make certain information available. In the 21st century, the Internet has made a lot of the pre-interview research more available and easier to find. Dont forget that you can also use other sources of information like public libraries or bookstores. Many magazines and journals can provide important and up-to-date information on your company and also provide you with information that your competitors who are also applying for the same job wont know. Your research for the job interview preparation should give you a better insight on The history of the business How old the business is The types of services the business offers The hierarchy structure How many offices/locations the business has Number of employees Career progression The business culture Competitors Benefits Check out the competitors websites a s well they are also a good source of information for your job preparation. How to prep for common interview questions To start with, you should ask yourself what the interviewer is likely to ask and prepare answers for these common interview questions. However, do not try to memorise exact answers word-for-word. They will sound scripted and will be easily picked up. What you need to do is have your answers planned, but be ready to adapt or change your answers depending on how the conversation plays out. There are literally thousands of general interview questions. Below you can find 15 of the most frequently asked questions Tell me about yourself Why did you decide to leave your last job? Where else have you applied? Whats your greatest strength? Whats your biggest weakness? Why have you applied for this job? Where do you see yourself in five years time? Why should we hire you for this job? Do you work well under pressure? How do you handle change? Briefly describe your ideal jo b What makes you want to work hard? How would your co-workers describe you? What motivates you? Tell me about your salary expectations How to dress for the interview Now that you have done your research and prepared for the interview, it is time to dress for the interview. There is a general rule you can follow dont try to dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want to have instead. Does what you wear to an interview really make a difference in the hiring process? The answer is yes the way you dress always matters. Dont allow your appearance to damage your chances of being hired for a job. The most important aspect is to dress appropriately for the role you are applying for. Applying for a stelle in a coffee shop is a lot different to applying for a role in a law firm. The best way to find out what type of clothing is appropriate to wear to the interview is to do a 10-minute stalk of the organisation and see what the employees are wearing. This way you cant go wrong. Di fferent colours evoke different emotions and it is imperative when youre interviewing that you evoke the right emotions from the interviewer. Examples Blue and grey Words that describe the colour blue include trust, loyalty, wisdom, peaceful. These are exactly the type of feelings you want to be portraying in your interview. Blue is a calming colour (think of the ocean and sky) and sends out a signal to the interviewer that you are indeed honest and sincere. Studies have shown that wearing the colour blue to an interview will increase your chances of getting hired more than any other colour. Another colour which is great for wearing at interviews is grey as it conveys sophistication and authority. Red In contrast to the colour blue, this colour stirs emotions more than any other colour. Red is a strong colour, very emotional, an extreme colour that in an interview scenario can work against you. Unlike blue which has a calming effect, red is fiery (think love and passion), and can be an intimidating colour for the interviewer. Red is also associated with power and assertiveness. To sum it all up remember the importance of the first impression. Know your audience and dress accordingly. This article is based on the free eBook Interview Secrets Exposed, written by Gavin F. Now you can get a great tech job without a $100,000 college degree

Now you can get a great tech job without a $100,000 college degreeNow you can get a great tech job without a $100,000 college degreeIts going to get easier to get those coveted top-paying tech jobs.Certain tech companies like IBM are starting new-collar job initiatives to break away from the homogenized company cultures where employees all come from the same schools and demographics. Instead of focusing on whats on paper, companies like IBM are more concerned with what applicantscan do. Sam Ladah, IBMs head of talent organization, told Fast Company that currently about 10% to 15% of IBMs workers are being hired fromthese non-traditional backgrounds.IBM starts young too- the company funds high school computer science initiatives in Oakland and Arizona aimed at underrepresented demographics in tech. The public sector is getting more involved too. In 2015, the White House started the TechHire Initiativein 20 U.S. cities to get more Americans rapidly trained into these high-paying tech jo bs.Apprenticeship programs like LaunchCode were highlighted as part of this. Former President Obama made the stakes to increasing job pipelines very clear When these tech jobs go unfilled, its a missed opportunity for the workers, but its also a missed opportunity for your city, your community, your county, your state, and our nation. These pipelines become especially important as other ones dry up. For instance, the tech industry has relied on immigrant workers to fill many coding jobs, which is going to be harder according to new changes in einwanderung rules under President Donald Trump. In new guidelines released over the weekend, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said that computer programmers would no longer automatically qualify for H-1B visas. The USCISwould no longer generally consider the position of programmer to qualify as a specialty occupation.Economic argument for technology jobs as vocational trainingThe numbers are on the wall. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Sta tistics projected that by 2020, there will be 1.4 million new computer science jobs, but only 400,000 computer science students. Theres not just a culturalimperative todiversifying tech companies, theres an economic imperative for businesses to start finding new pipelines, or else they risk getting left behind. For workers choosing careers, the tech industry is where the moneys at. In 2013, the Obama administration said that information technology workers earned about 74% more than the average worker. The rise ofskills-based hiring initiatives is showing us that its never too late to change careers, and that you dont need fancy paper to do it. In fact, tech companies, coding boot camps and high school initiatives are saying that this is not a unique skill it can be taught to anyone with a ready mind to learn.

Narcissism can manifest in a variety of ways, many of which can be detrimental to both your significant other - and yourself - and is often used toveil insecurity and poor self-esteem.While narcissistic behavior can be a cry for help, it can also be incredibly damaging to both your relationship and your own well-being. Before you seek out ways to help your partner or decide to call it quits on your romance, its helpful to know if they are actually exhibiting the signs of narcissistic personality disorder.Signs of Narcissistic Personality DisorderHere are signs your partner may be struggling with narcissistic personality disorder1. They dominate conversationsRelationships are a two-way street, but a narcissistic partner will find any possible way to redirect a conversation back to themselves. Rather than listening a ttentively, theyre prone to cut you off to share their own perspectives or change the subject altogether in order to shift the focus back on them.2. They are obsessed with appearancesNarcissists are focused on appearances in all sense of the word, from physical looks to perceived success. Is your partner constantly staring at themselves in the mirror or distracted by their reflection while strolling past store windows? Are theyobsessively focused on obtaining flashy work titlesand expensive sports cars regardless of if they reallywantthem? You may have a narcissist on your hands.3. They cant take criticismConstructive criticism is a healthy part of personal growth, be it through a performance review or an honest discussion about your relationship. Individuals with narcissistic personality disorder will bristle in the face of criticism, either rejecting and ignoring it altogether, or becoming outwardly angry and hostile. Their elevated sense of self makes it difficult for them to abs orb suggestions for improvement, and thus theyre significantly less receptive to critical feedback.4. They are empathy impairedMalkin says the key to spotting narcissistic personality disorder is observing the three Es - exploitation, entitlement, and empathy impairment. However, this is different than lacking empathy altogether. Dr. Malkin noted that instead the level of empathy may fluctuate over time, which can be especially challenging in relationships.Itll appear that theyre not motivated, or that they are too preoccupied with their own needs to display empathy, says Malkin. But they have a capacity for empathy and this can make it very confusing if youre in a relationship with them.5. Theyre controllingNarcissists want and demand to be in control, and their sense of entitlement makes it seem logical to them that they should be in control - of everything, wrote Dr. Margalis Fjelstad in anarticle for Mind Body Green. Theymay monitor where youre going, who youre talking to, wha t youre wearing, etc. Everything you do fits into their personal narrative to achieve a perceived sense of perfection.6. They act entitled and constantly seek validationA person with narcissistic personality disorder believes they are owed and deserving of everything, regardless of whether theyve truly earned it. As a result, they will often go out of their way to seek praise, but will rarely reciprocate it.A narcissists need for validation is like a funnel, Fjelstad wrote. You pour in positive, supportive words, and they just flow out the other end and are gone. No matter how much you tell narcissists you love them, admire them, or approve of them, they never feel its enough - because deep down they dont believe anyone can love them.7. Theyre addicted to social mediaIn todays social media obsessed world,it can be hard to determine what constitutes a normal amount of, say, Instagram usage. However, a narcissist may post significantly more than the average user, while fixating on th e number of likes, talking about it incessantly in conversation as part of their need for validation.8. They exhibit signs of substance abuse or other mood disordersSome narcissists may self medicate with alcohol or drugsand show symptoms of addiction, which may tell a larger story of the demons theyre battling. Despite demonstrating outsized ego, a narcissistic partner will in some cases exhibit symptoms of other mood disorders, like depression and anxiety. How You Can HelpSo what do you do if you notice your partner is showing several of behauptung signs?
